Tear your eyes away from Regé-Jean Page, the hot Duke in Shonda Rhimes’s Bridgerton, and you’ll notice one of the most joyful things about the show is the jewellery. Glittering faux-heirloom jewels are depicted with metres of Swarovski crystal and pearls used in a grandiloquent mash-up of fairytale jewels in Regency London. Each episode dazzles with maximalism manifested in candy-colour jewels and sequin embellishments on Empire line silks; gloriously exaggerated but somehow never excessive. Remember the Crawleys of Downton Abbey? Well, they seem dowdy now.
